In 1967 a group of police
officers in Brentwood came up with the idea of forming a
boy's band.
The
Band's uniform were second-hand police serge, suitably
altered to fit the first corps members. White peak caps
with a star shaped badge with a cornet in the middle completed
the uniform, a replica of the badge adorns the Band's headed
paper and is reproduced here on these web pages forming
a link with the past. Permission to display the Brentwood
Town Crest on the Band drums was sought from the District
Council and freely given.
To
promote the newly formed band, The Romford Drum and Trumpet
Corps held a march through Brentwood town centre and so
the Brentwood Drum Corps was born.
In
1971 it became obvious the band required new uniforms.
After due discussion a military style uniform of grey and
scarlet was adopted. It is this uniform the band members
wear today.
In
1976 it was decided to recruit girl band members - a decission
that no one has ever regretted.
With
members both old and new the Brentwood Drum Corps looks
forward to meeting the challenges of the 21st Century,
continuing in the bands fine musical tradition and formation
marching display.
